Sample Lesson Plan Using Technology
1. Purpose/Objective: Create a PowerPoint presentation to tell the story of you and your family and present your finished project to class. Cultivate good oral presentation skills to share personal information in an engaging manner.
2. Anticipatory Set: The teacher introduces himself with his own PowerPoint presentation that incorporates interesting pictures of him as a child, his family, and his hobbies.
3. Input: The teacher will define the parameters of the project and how to get started.
a. Students will have 10-15 minutes to present their final projects.
b. Students will use a minimum of 10 slides, but no more than 15.
c. Students will title each slide with a heading.
d. Students will include at least 10 pictures.
4. Modeling:
a. The teacher will show students how to create a new PowerPoint file on the computer.
b. The teacher will demonstrate how to insert text and pictures.
c. The teacher will explain how to use selected animation tools.
d. Week One: The teacher will demonstrate the traits of an effective speaker and demonstrate the various
aspects of his PowerPoint presentation.
e. Week Two: The teacher will model how to listen during a presentation and how to give constructive
feedback using an oral presentation rubric.
5. Guided Practice:
a. The teacher will observe students as they construct their presentations and offer help and advice as
needed.
b. The teacher will listen to group interactions as students offer praise and advice.
c. The teacher will offer feedback, corrective advice, and/or praise as needed.
6. Checking for Understanding:
a. The teacher will reinforce these skills over the course of the week and ask students to demonstrate some of
the skills of creating a PowerPoint presentation.
b. At the start of the second week, the teacher will review the traits of a good oral presentation and introduce
the traits of a good listener.
c. Students will receive oral presentation rubrics and learn how to use them in giving feedback to their
classmates.
7. Independent Practice: Students will have an half hour each day to work on the computer during the first week of the project. During the second week of the project, students will have an hour to practice delivering their presentation, listen to other presentations, and give feedback to their classmates on what they did well and what they need to improve.
8. Grouping Patterns: At the beginning of the second week, students will be divided into groups of three and four to practice their presentations. Each student will be given oral presentation rubrics to give feedback to each group member.
9. Closure: At the end of the project, the teacher will hand out a survey for students to talk about what they learne
